Does lake tahoe in california have snakes?
or scorpions? we want to go there this summer. we will be taking a toddler and and an infant I just don’t want any of those creatures creeping up on my babies!
YES.There are wood scorpions, but it’s rare to find them unless you’d know where to look and what you’re looking for. Rattlers are there, but less there than at the lower altitudes where it’s warmer. Watch for yellow wasps or bees that search for sweets or food scraps. They bite and sting both. Toddlers and infants shouldn’t be left unwatched or unattended in the areas like that as I’m sure you know. You’ll find more larger sized black ants and spiders than rattle snakes around Tahoe. If you can, use a bug spray that’s non-toxic, and don’t allow the kids to play around old dead-fallen trees, stumps, or turn rocks and bark pieces over, without supervision. Also be on the watch for chipmunks and squirrels that seem overfriendly. I would suggest that you check into a local Ranger Station Office to get the best advice and information about ‘critters” in that area.
